2023 Meeting Minutes
The annual COBRA membership meeting was held on Tuesday, May 30th, 2023 in the café area at the Prineville Fairground. Pizza was delivered and served before the meeting started. The meeting began at 6:35pm with the Pee Wee class first followed but the Juniors and concluded with the open class.
The first piece of business that was decided that we will continue to be a member only club, meaning that you must be a member to compete in any event other than Barrels. You can compete in Barrels as a non- member, as we use their insurance.
Kristina made a motion to remove the office completely. This was discussed and did not move forward with this. Kristina made another motion for a $5 office fee and cap it at $10. Shellie seconded the motion. It was voted on with 11 votes no and 3 votes yes. The motion did not pass.
Shellie made a motion that if in the Open you work all the events you don’t pay an office fee. Kristina seconded the motion. It was voted on with 11 votes no and 4 votes yes. The motion did not pass.
Shellie made another motion that the office fee be waived for all directors. Kristina seconded this motion. It was voted on with 17 votes yes and 0 votes no. The motion passed and the directors will not be paying an office fee this year and the office fee will stay the same for others.
Liz made a motion to add a treasure to the board to help with some of the office duties. Jen seconded the motion. It was voted on with 21 votes yes and 0 votes no. The motion passed and we will now have a separate treasure.
Liz made a motion that we make Kristina the new paid Jackpot Secretary. Michelle seconded the motion. It was voted on 16 yes and 0 no. Kristina will be the new paid Jackpot Secretary.
It was discussed that we will work on the website to see if we can upgrade some area to make the entry system a little more user friendly.
Char made a motion that you can rope 3 times in the breakaway as long as they are 3 different horses. Shellie seconded the motion. It was voted on 16 yes and 0 no. You can make 3 runs in the breakaway as long as it is on 3 different horses.
It was decided that we will keep the same point horse rule in place. You can run multiple horses but your points will count on your first horse unless you declare in your entries what horse you want your points on.
There was discussion around whether we should put into place a rule stating if you break the pattern, you will be asked to leave the arena. It was decided that it wasn’t the best fit for our club. This rule will not be in place.
A motion was made to roll a person in an event if they were needed to leave but we must be in their age group to do so. This was voted on 10 yes and 3 no. We can roll you down or up if you give us a heads up and we are in your age group.
It was decided that Liz would do her best to split up the races between Prineville and Brasada depending on when she can get dates.
Sage mentioned that we need more help with the goats and about getting a helper to help along with the event director. It was decided if you are needing more help than what you have to please let us know and we will get the help needed. It was also announced that if you are not going to make an event to please let us know and help find help to fill in.
New Officers were decided:
President: Liz Russell would continue to do so.
Secretary: Jennifer Robinson would continue to do so
Treasure: Liz nominated Desiree Russell to be the new treasure and Erica seconded the motion. It was voted 21 yes 0 no that Desiree Russell would be the new treasure. Desiree Russell is to be added to the Central Oregon Barrel Racing Assoc Umpqua Bank account ending in 6724.
The new event directors were decided:
Barrels: Michelle Kennedy
Poles: Hayden Bafford
Stake: Kaycee Kash
Goats: Shellie Gray
Steer Daubing: Charmarie Bradach
Breakaway: Kristina Gomes
Team Roping: Jenna Johnson
Kids- Jodi Homes
Awards: Brittany Santucci and Liz Russell
